Ajang penghargaan yang baru pertama kali digelar, MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards memberikan penghargaan untuk para artis terpopuler di tahun ini.
Acara ini digelar di Namdong Gymnasium, Incheon pada 6 November malam hari. BTS membawa pulang penghargaan terbanyak di malam itu, dengan total lima piala termasuk dua piala Daesang – Best Artist of the Year dan Best Digital Album of the Year – serta Best Male Dance Performance, Genie Music Popularity Award, dan Best Male Group.
Pendiri BigHit Entertainment, Bang Shi Hyuk juga mendapatkan penghargaan Producer of the Year, sementara Son Sung Deuk diberikan penghargaan Best Choreography untuk BTS “IDOL”.
TWICE membawa pulang tiga penghargaan yakni Daesang Best-Selling Artist of the Year, Best Female Group, dan Best Global Performance. Wanna One juga mendapatkan tiga penghargaan, yakni Daesang Song of the Year dan Best Male Vocal Performance untuk “Beautiful” serta MBC Plus Star Award.
